LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a nationally recognized program established by the US Green Building Council to guide and encourage the design of healthy, resource efficient, environmentally responsible buildings. To achieve a LEED rating, throughout its design and construction a building must pay special attention to each method and material specified to ensure that the most environmentally appropriate choices are made in several different categories. As a result of Vulcan Inc. and Harbor Properties care and commitment, Alcyone has been recognized as a LEED certified building.
We are proud of what we have achieved and excited about the benefits that we can offer. |

WHAT WE DID: |
RESIDENT BENEFIT: |
|||||||
Commercial quality energy efficient windows effectively regulate heat and light transference between the indoor and outdoor environment. |
More temperate spaces with increased natural light, greater thermal comfort, and the potential for lower utility bills. |
|||||||
| A central gas-fired domestic hot water system, instead of individual water heaters, supplies hot water on demand to each unit. | Reduced energy use, which means lower utility bills. | |||||||
| Steel stud metal gauge framing forms the skeleton of the building (instead of wood framing) to increase durability and eliminate shrinkage. | Fewer leaks mean less chance of furniture or fixture damage due to water intrusion and mold contamination. | |||||||
| Low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and carpets limit the “off gassing” of toxic chemical elements into the indoor air. | Improved indoor air quality and a healthier indoor environment. | |||||||
| Flexcar parking spaces, electric vehicle charging stations, and bicycle storage facilities encourage alternative transportation and reduced automobile use. | Reduced demand for parking spaces among tenants and potential cost saving from not operating a car. | |||||||
| A rooftop Pea Patch garden with recycled rainwater irrigation provides green space, reduces potable water consumption, and mitigates storm water runoff from the roof. | A green space amenity with a garden to grow your own plants. | |||||||
| 80% of construction was recycled during the construction of the building to divert materials from landfills. | A sustainable living environment from design through construction. | |||||||
| Located our project on an urban site convenient to work and play opportunities that utilizes existing infrastructure. | The convenience of reduced commute times, public transportation options, and nearby culture and entertainment opportunities. | |||||||
